RACKET SPORTS: ADVANCES IN PERFORMANCE, HEALTH, AND TRAINING PRESCRIPTION

Rationale and scope

More than a decade has elapsed since JSSM hosted a dedicated Tennis Special Issue (2013). During this period, the competitive and scientific landscape in racket sports has evolved substantially, including increased match intensity and congestion at the elite level, broader professionalization pathways, rapid growth in emerging racket sports, and widespread adoption of technology and analytics. We therefore welcome submissions that advance both scientific understanding and applied decision-making in these sports.

Manuscripts of interest

We invite high-quality Original Research and evidence syntheses (systematic reviews/meta-analyses/scoping reviews with explicit methodology and actionable conclusions) in areas such as:

Internal and external load quantification; intensity distribution; training–competition integration; tournament congestion
Fatigue, recovery kinetics, readiness monitoring, and inter-individual response profiling Biomechanics of strokes and footwork; tissue loading; change-of-direction demands; performance determinants under fatigue
Injury mechanisms, prevention programs, rehabilitation, and return-to-play decision-making
Training prescription and periodization (e.g., microdosing/priming/tapering; dose–response; concurrent training)
Technology validation (IMU, instrumented equipment) and analytics for coaching/clinical decisions; markerless motion capture.
Health outcomes and safe participation in recreational and masters’ populations
